Theme: Integration for Accelerated Economic Growth and Development
In November 1999, a treaty was signed that established the East African Community. The regional integration process is being fast tracked through the integration pillars: the customs union, common market, monetary union and political federation.
The fast tracking of the achievement of the pillars for integration is imperative.
Accountants are well on board. In the spirit of the EAC common market protocol, the East African Community Institutes of Accountants (EACIAs) signed a Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) in 2011, to facilitate easier movement of professional accountants among the EAC member states. In line with the MRA, accountants are collaborating in the areas of member education, institutional capacity building, organizational support, development of technical resources and learning material, and standard setting, among others.
At the 3rd EACOA, accountants will discuss how the EAC integration efforts will impact economic growth.
